Folks, public schools are by nature socialist enterprises. We should not be surprised that we have teachers and students who don’t know the advantages of individual liberty and responsibility. Back in 50s and 60s, when I attended public school, government was already being touted as the great social savior. My patriotic, conservative parents spoke glowingly of social security. There were no coherent critiques readily available to us at that time. My point is that “creeping socialism” has been a long time coming. Perhaps it would not have been so successful if more of us as individuals and charitable, collegial organizations had been aggressive in extending a neighborly hand to address injustices and social misery. I’ve certainly neglected many such opportunities over the years. We allowed a vacuum to develop that something had to fill. It’s not too late. There are opportunities everywhere. Specifically, finding creative ways to help these children in DC afford to stay in private schools would be a worthy cause. I’m willing to combine my efforts with those of others on this forum. What do you think we can come up with?

This is the most perfect example that liberals and their propaganda education ilk known as the NEA are not interested in educating children. They are only interested in guaranteeing jobs for incompetent and inept liberal mouth-pieces (what the NEA calls teachers). Only liberals would take a program that is wildly successful in the midst of the worst public school system in America and close it down. Only the pathetic excuses for teachers that is the NEA would take a wildly successful program that is allowing poor children to receive a superior education, their only hope for a better life, and demand that it be closed down. It's no coincidence that as the NEA's influence over public education has increased, education standards and performance has drastically declined. Parents need to wake up and realize that the NEA and all teacher's unions only care about protecting jobs of stupid unqualified "teachers" and brainwashing children in their propaganda.

Wonder what songs these Obama-bots will be singing about their president now? Oh I forgot! They probably don’t have music in those intercity schools. Maybe Oprah can take up the slack?

If Madame Secretary and the rest of the O-Bomb-a administration were really concerned with 'keeping the kids in the schools they want to be in' they would grandfather all of the students already in it. Why not just say it? It's easier to brain wash future generations if they are all educated in the same system. Communism here we come. Mooo!

I understand Obama's children attend one of the schools where vouchers are being cut. I suggest that as a gesture, Obama demonstrate his confidence in the public education system by enrolling his daughters in the appropriate public school for their district. Fair?

You can thank Dick Durbin of Illinois for putting this little "cut" into the stimulus (porkulous) bill.... You all remember THAT one, don't you? That's the one every Democrat voted for, but NONE of them READ it..... Hope and Change.... Tell me what these D.C. parents and students are hoping for NOW?

Look at the wonderful new society created by the election of Obama and the liberal left to Congress. Thousands of under-privileged children in Washington, D.C., face the prospect of being thrown into the poor excuse for a public school system, starting this year with no new students being offered the vouchers which have been offered since 2003. The vouchers allowed these children to get the same type of education as the President's children, but it is part of his new Administration to deny a better education, and send all of these children back to the crime-ridden public school system. This is his new society. I can hear the children crying now.

So why not send Obama's kids back to public school also if they are so good and safe. Or is this a 'you' and 'us' deal again. It all points to politics. Shut down the good schools and support the teachers union and substandard teachers. I mean, who cares as long as they are educated just enough to need the government to run their lives and vote Democrat. This is a sad, sad time for our great country. Then again, Chavez and Castro love it and tell BO (bad odor) to keep up the good work.
