Reform for Education in America By Jake ©Copyright 2009 Most Americans agree that there is great need to have reform for education in America. Americans see the academic failures of American schools when compared to other countries. They see American schools falling far behind testing scores of other countries. Seeing the superiority of worldwide schools over American schools doesn’t sit well with Americans. Reform for education in America needs to start with the Teacher Unions or have their complete dismissal. Reform for education needs to break the political favor cycle between Teacher Unions and politicians. Reform for education really needs to greatly increase parent and student choice in education for not only the rich, but the poor alike. However, hypocrisy with American politicians and unions prevent progress. Americans see the education market leave them in the dust, but their politicians are so bent and determined to not allow free markets take place in education, even given the fact that the worldwide education market is something Americans are very much apart of. Americans keep trying to have reform for education in America by way of more money and not competition. In the United States’ infancy, competition’s amoral rights didn’t have enough moral rules governing and preventing it from being much of a fair system. Over the last one hundred years Americans have greatly improved the negative causes of unregulated free trade. Now Americans, as usual, have over compensated and are snuffing out free markets as they allow no choice in education. Reform for education in America needs to put more choice for parents and students back into the education cake. Teacher Unions that were created originally to overcome the overbearing amoral nature of free markets on teachers served a moral purpose a hundred years ago when this change was greatly desired and needed by the American people. Today, American Teacher Unions are seen as a large corporate giant and political machine in its own right. These Unions now prevent unqualified teachers from being replaced by qualified teachers. They prevent desired teachers from being paid what they are worth. They effectively tax all public school teachers and everyday citizens the money for political activism that favors secularism and many liberal political agendas, most of which are liberal moral political agendas and none of which are for the true welfare of teachers, students, and improved education. American politicians and Teacher Unions are the number one reason why reform for education in America just isn’t happening. Unions fund politicians, who in return pass legislation and protect legislation that ensures the strong health of Teacher Unions, who symbiotically keep funding politicians. Teacher Unions really should be seen as a company in the free market whose only interest is self preservation. These unions seek to preserve their current corporate culture and livelihood. If these unions only sought livelihood, they would change to effectively meet the needs of teachers in both the public and private sector. The truth is private sector teachers love not having to pay union dues. They know unions offer no real advantages in negotiating with private schools and so choose not to become a part of Teacher Unions. Reform for education in America requires Teacher Unions to step aside or change. Reform for Education won’t happen until most Americans recognize that Teacher Unions have become so secular in nature that these union organizations fear having to change those secular views. This is why they don’t care to change to entice private sector teachers. These are sectors where religious or even special interests have the ability to put non-secular convictions back into the education cake. The people who run the teacher union machines see this as a threat and actively lobby to wipe out private schools and fortify the public secular school monopoly. This self fulfillment is very similar to the fulfillment a parent gains when they have children who grow up believing their own views on life. ©Copyright 2009 |
